Highway 413 will negatively impact the surrounding GTA area significantly. This highway will cut through multiple streams and rivers that contain precious habitat and homes for wildlife and plants a like. The construction of this highway does not follow the lawful procedure of a provincial environmental assessment. This assessment is crucial to the protection and conservation of vulnerable stream and river habitat. It is not acceptable for this bill to be exempted from an appropriate impact assessment. This would not be an issue if everyone (including the government) followed the rules and laws that have been out in place to protect not only the country’s people but also the habitat. Where is the line? If the Ontario government is able to “skip” an environmental assessment what else can they skip? It is truly disgusting and should not be accepted. The area that surrounds where Highway 413 will potentially be built are farmlands. Farmlands and therefore food supply will be negatively impacted as well. This area contains prime soil and nutrients for local crops to flourish. This means Ontario and Canada as a whole will not need to rely on international produce to be shipped in. Highway 413 should not be approved to save our vulnerable streams and river and to keep out Ontario land safe.
