I firmly believe that given the dual factors of climate change and human pressure on the natural ecosystems of Ontario that the Moose hunt should be closed for at least 10 years. As an Ontario sportsman I have observed first hand the horrific decline in the moose population. I have observed the huge numbers of all terrain ,four wheelers, side by sides and off road vehicles during the moose season. Now even drones are being used to spot moose. The creation of logging roads in pristine areas of forest further exacerbates the overall survivability of young moose. First nations shoot moose all year killing pregnant cows. The MNR must consult and make First Nations part of an ecologically sustainable moose management plan. If you want a healthy moose population close parts of WMUs to hunting and access by all motorized vehicles. Look at Finland and see what they as a nation are doing. They the Fins have a healthy growing moose population even though there are many hunters. There are extraordinary pressures extant on the moose of Ontario and the only way to mitigate those pressures is to maintain a healthy ecosystem and ensure that sportsmen, respect and conserve those ecosystems.
