If the township of Centre Wellington does not feel that there is currently enough data to adequately inform the impacts of continued and expanding groundwater takings in the area then I support them and believe that the moratorium should be extended to provide additional time for adequate scientific insight to be obtained.
In all communities, but especially those that rely heavily/solely on groundwater for their drinking water source, it is critical to ensure current and future water supplies will be protected. Well researched scientific evidence should be obtained to ensure total and individual takings from an aquifer can be maintained. This is especially important for ensuring adequate water in drought years/seasons and permits to take water should take into consideration the impacts of large takings within these drought periods with reduced takings at those times.
Groundwater is an important drinking water resource to many Ontarians and we need to make sure that we understand the science and impacts of large permits to take water before they are approved and/or expanded.
