I completely disagree with the government’s new energy policy regarding “natural gas”. It is methane, which is a toxic cancer-causing gas, and burning it causes greenhouse gas emissions which are destroying our environment. The cost of energy for heating our buildings and fueling our businesses will be irrelevant when we are perishing in fires (like Los Angeles), floods, hurricanes, in a country ripped apart by war and famine (which the UN now estimates as $2Billion people world-wide are already experiencing.). This is not a time for “business as usual.” It is time for facing reality, the one we have wrought by exploiting natural resources without conscious and leaving the least developed nations of the world to suffer the consequences of our gaining wealth from cheap energy at their expense. What is needed is radical change, and a focus on renewable energy and energy conservation. Ontario is far behind Europe in putting needed changes in place. We need solar energy, and we need wind energy in the Great Lakes. We need rapid transition of trades to sustainable jobs. Renewable energy is built faster, and it is cheaper. The decision to temporarily allow GHG gases to continue to increase while building more gas powered electricity generating stations, while waiting for new nuclear energy plants to be built is selling us the fallacy that we have this time. We do not. Nuclear is very expense - the most expense type of energy, and it will go over schedule and over budget. The GHG from the gas powered electricity plants will just dirty the grid we have. Switching to electricity that is created by burning methane is a shell game, and the leakages of methane in this process, plus the energy loss in the conversion process is just taking steps backward off a cliff. I do not expect my thoughts here to influence or sway your intentions. However, I do want the government to understand that I know what you are doing. You are in bed with Enbridge.
