Downgrading a Species at Risk to a Species of Special Concern raises questions on the:
- objectivity of the reassessment methodology used by the committee on the Status of Species at Risk.
- whether such mitigation changes prioritize the interests of business over the protection of at risk
plants and animal species.
Therefore, MECP should re-examine and reconsider the regulatory amendments to:
1. NOT allow the application of exemptions in the Regulation of exempt species added to the SR in the ON list.
2. Strengthen the Endangered Species Act on a Science-Based Regime.
