It is devastating that the need to expand our cities seems to cost us so much - our planet. We only have one planet and happen to share it with other species. These species are also detrimental to our survival. Destroying habitats for the cost of capital gain is absolutely abysmal. If anything, now is the time to be MORE protective of our natural resources and the wildlife we are so lucky to share this world with. The destruction of Ontario Place for the sole purpose of making money (building a spa that no one asked for) should be a lesson. The bypass of an Environmental Assessment to the west island and destruction of a large green space that was home to a lot of wildlife wreaked havoc on the surrounding areas, including Liberty Village. The coyotes displaced due to this selfish and shortsighted act were forced out of their home and moved on to find shelter elsewhere resulting the devastating loss of several dogs due to coyote attacks. Here is a link outlining the issue:

This is just one example of what happens when we disturb and disrupt nature. We need to stop building and start protecting. Cities and transportation never has, and never will be, more important than our HOME.
