I am extremely concerned with the dismantling of the Endangered Species Act that will cause extensive loss of life within Ontario's natural spaces, wherever at-risk species and spaces exist within this province.
There comes a time when the concept of having a shared purpose for sustainability needs to take precedence over everything else.
The choice to make extensive changes in the balance of all living entities MUST be properly and fairly considered for the health of this province and not just for the human population. To tip the scales so aggressively in favour of human life over all other species that exist in Ontario for the sake of extravagant human consumption is egregious at best and shamefully destructive at its worst.
It is beyond detrimental to the crucial symbiotic relationship between humankind and nature. There are many species that humans depend on to survive. Without the bee, crops could collapse. Without the normal chain in nature, several species will cease to exist and ecosystems could falter beyond repair. Just like the Karner Blue Butterfly, without critical natural habitat, many more species will also become extinct in Ontario.
To simply say - If a species is not in this area right at the moment, that area is up for grabs to develop. Or, if it is found elsewhere in the province, it is okay to wipe it out in other areas to build a road or develop a sprawling subdivision; or mine; or cut down forests. The list goes on as the choices continue to be made to destroy everything that is necessary for a healthy, balanced ecosystem - and human life.
When has it become okay to only love the human race over everything else? What message does this send to the children of this province? What will future generations have to depend on when the balance of nature is destroyed and it clearly affects everyone?
I implore this government to reconsider and reverse all of the damage that is being created and that will continue to devastate the fragile endangered species and spaces in this once glorious province. Please do not destroy what we truly depend on and what was here long before us - all for the sake of - what? The citizens of Ontario will not recover from such great losses that have been eliminated by the hands of a few. Be fair to everything that lives in Ontario. Reverse all of the past, current and proposed detrimental changes and keep the Endangered Species Act intact to protect those that need our protection - before it is too late.
