I ask that the Eagle's Nest…

I ask that the Eagle's Nest Mine Project not be amended to bypass a comprehensive Environmental Assessment. Given the sensitive conditions in the Ring of Fire proper precautions must be undertaken before proceeding. Without a full assessment, we lack information and rush headlong into potentially damaging results. In particular, the peat bogs are known to store a wealth of carbon that if disturbed may threaten our climate commitments. In addition, I am concerned about this project proceeding without receiving full, informed and prior consent from any First Nations whose traditional lands the claim may fall within. Again, how can full information be given without a full environmental assessment? And if the project is rushed as this bill appears to seek, how can full consent be given?
