Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the issue of advertising along Ontario highways.
I have two big concerns:
1. distraction on the highways - we already have enough distractions without adding more.
2. Ontario is beautiful. We are already becoming disconnected from nature and our farmlands. Putting up signage that impedes the view of our natural beauty or important farms lands will only cause a further disconnect from the land. We all need more connection to nature and we need to preserve farm land. As a whole wee need to preserve our collective connectedness and not impinge our sight lines with signs, no matter how tasteful.
I routinely drive north on the 400 and the recent row of transport truck trailers that are lined up just south of Barrie with a hodge podge of colours, fonts, services and products are a definite eyesore and a distraction. In addition, they add confusion to traffic and roadway signage regarding exits, speed limits, construction zones etc. This signage needs to be our priority for keeping our roads as safe as they can be.
