I am SO grateful for the Dawn-Euphemia Council to pass a motion to request the Environmental Assessment be required before York 1 can continue in their pursuit of the waste disposal site minutes from Dresden. I quote the mayor of Dawn-Euphemia as saying 'Our wonderful premier has decided there was going to be an environmental assessment done and now he's changed his mind. He's introducing this act called the Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act (Bill 5). It's funny how you can call it protect Ontario and then you pull the EA away, it doesn't make any sense to me." And as a long-time Dresden resident I totally agree with this comment!!! It makes zero sense to take away the EA requirement for this proposal....in no way can this be protecting Ontario when so much harm will come from this proposal should York 1 be given the go ahead. And not doing an EA will make it that much easier for them to succeed with their proposal and cause devastation to our town and surrounding area. We are people of Ontario and deserve to be protected too!!!
Doug Ford is trying to expedite the process so York 1 can start its expansion of the small dormant dump that is near Dresden. BUT HASTE MAKES WASTE....no pun intended....But rushing decisions like this can be catastrophic and cause irreversible damage and harm. He claims more dumps are needed in Ontario especially if tariffs are imposed on garbage going to Michigan....BUT AT WHOSE EXPENSE!! The residents of our area will be so negatively impacted by this proposal...having 700 trucks PER DAY coming through our town and area bringing thousands of tonnes of Toronto garbage daily is beyond our comprehension. An EA must be required to show the detrimental impact of this project - it is for the health and lives of the people of Dresden and the surrounding area that an EA MUST be required!
