I am writing to strongly oppose the proposed landfill at 29831 Irish School Road, near the town of Dresden. The justification being circulated—potential tariffs from the U.S. on waste—does not hold up. There are currently no tariffs on garbage, and even if there were in the future, that does not justify placing a massive landfill 800 metres from a town, directly beside homes, farms, two schools, and next to a sensitive water supply area that includes Molly’s Creek and species-at-risk habitats.
Canada is a vast country. If additional landfill capacity is truly required, it can and should be located far away from densely populated or ecologically sensitive areas. Choosing this location puts the health of children, families, farmers, and entire ecosystems at risk—for the sake of private profit and political convenience. That is not responsible governance.
We must not ignore our duty to protect small towns like Dresden simply because they are rural. This town is a close-knit, thriving community, and no one should be forced to live next to a dump because it’s politically easier. Please uphold the full Environmental Assessment and reject this unsafe and inappropriate proposal.
