This is unacceptable and reeks of corruption. Enacting these changes is certain to result in costly lawsuits leading to years of uncertainty and delay for industry. This is not the guaranteed cash cow you think it will be—preserving the environment is not strictly a partisan issue and multiple stakeholders will come out against this.
The Ford government must be rational here. If you continue operating in shady, deceptive ways, the pushback will result in increasingly stringent protections and greater resistance. Bring some common sense to the process of land development.
Instead of this shortsighted, selfish, greedy proposal, focus on land planning, in conjunction with the federal government, to establish clear, appropriate areas for development. This land planning must be done in consultation with stakeholders, including Indigenous groups, area residents, and environmental experts. This is not anti-development, this is smart, strategic development.
The Conservatives must, even if only for a moment, consider that your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will inherit this earth. Don’t destroy it for developer cronies and kickbacks. This is a ridiculous proposal and must be quashed.
