I oppose Bill 5 and anything proposed by the government that seeks to regress, revoke, or reinterpret things like the Ontario Heritage act, environmental assessment act, mining act etc.
Canada and Ontario in particular has a rich and wonderful natural environment and cultural heritage that we should be recognize as important and should be seen as the non-renewable resource it is. Especially the Ontario and Canadian heritage that has been wiped out through the guise of development and modernization. Throughout Europe and the rest of the world nation hold dear to them their own cultural heritage which can be shared with the citizens of the nations and citizens of the entire world. Ontario heritage plays an important role for understand early human migrations and movement patterns from before the ice age as well as understanding the lives of the indigenous nations that inhabited the land before the colonial ancestors that arrived here under the flags of Spain England and France. Even the heritage of those colonists play an important role in understanding where we come from and even more importantly can shed light on the direction we are heading has a nation.
I believe as a resident of Ontario for 27 years born and raised in Kitchener that our local heritage is extremely important and needs to preserved to the best of our ability as the stewards and citizens of the amazing and beautiful province. We need to take honour and pride in trying to preserve our rich history rather than trying to by pass it in the name of development. The UN secretary of defence says “ the deliberate destruction of heritage is a war crime, it has become a tactic of war to tear societies over the long term, in a strategy of cultural cleansing.” So why is it that our own government is seeking to repeal acts and laws that are in place to preserve our heritage and indigenous heritage. Why is it that the government wants to destroy more of the cultural heritage of the indigenous people, Black slaves that fled oppression in the south, Mennonite culture, and even the very European settler culture that is so engrained into our societal fabric and the culture that has made Canada and Ontario the place it is today.
I demand that this Bill 5 be halted in its tracks and to be discussed no further.
We should be using our cultural heritage like the serpent mound in souther Ontario, or the various forts and battle fields to promote to the world and increase Canada and Ontario as historic tourist destination.
I am a disgruntled citizen of Ontario and I have spoken my mind.
