The St. Lawrence Neighbourhood is located downtown Toronto. www.slna.ca Although we are not in the immediate area of a provincial highway we are opposed to any billboards whether in the city or on major roadways. We already have enough evidence that drivers are distracted and we don't need to add to this. Given the fuller conversation around climate change etc we do not want to be adding to the discussion around light pollution etc. Moving signs that are illuminated are distracting. The revenue this provides does not compensate for the disruption of any scenic opportunities left.
This seems contrary to other policies within the provincial government. Natural Resources would be in conflict as billboard signs are out of context. The provincial police I can't imagine supporting when they are advising drivers to keep their eyes on the road.
We feel that this is not necessary given that the mandate of the ministry of transportation is to oversee "the safe, efficient and sustainable movement of people and goods throughout Ontario."
Thank you.
