The proposed changes will have devastating consequences on the environment and on biodiversity in Ontario. Habitat is more than just when an animal sleeps or where the roots of a plant grow. Feeding and mating grounds are also necessary for the survival of endangered species.
Allowing developers to bypass environmental assessments in favour of a dropdown form is the height of corruption. Yes, Ontario is facing a housing crisis. The solution is not to throw up single family homes in every available inch of land (which doesn’t actually do much to solve the housing crisis if a significant portion of Ontarians still will be unable to afford them), especially not at the expense of our precious environment.
The role of government is to protect its constituents, which includes those who are not human and have no voice. The role of government is not to cater to corporate greed and line the pockets of a select few real estate developers with links to Premier Ford.
