This new Act threatens every aspect of Ontario life, because it gives the Premier and Cabinet the power to declare any part of Ontario a "Special Economic Zone" where no rules, Acts, Regulations, Instruments (such as municipal by-laws) or conditions apply to "designated projects".
Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli, or any other Cabinet Minister, e.g. Mike Harris Jr, could declare anything to be a "designated project" -- the Wilmot Land assembly, land set aside by municipalities for affordable housing, heritage conservation districts, Ontario Place -- any place could become a "designated project" where no Act, Regulation or By-law applies.
What about my house? It would not be safe under Bill 5. How can I live with the thought that at any time, the government may come along and say, sorry, you need to leave, we want your land for something else???
This is an abuse of power and should not be allowed.
