I am strongly opposed to Bill 5.
"With Bill 5, the government is effectively removing the safeguards for the Ring of Fire. While the province has repeatedly stated it will meet its constitutional duty to consult Indigenous communities when making decisions, the bill includes no explicit mention of this. Nor does it clarify how First Nations will be able to participate in these decisions. Instead, the bill exempts development from both ecological and archaeological assessments, which risks the destruction of First Nation burial sites, artifacts and lands." - Fatima Sayed, 2025
In addition, I strongly oppose this Bill becuase it is NOT in the interest of regular Canadians. It is in our interest to protect the environment, which has already been devastated by mining and other resource extraction, and the global reliance on fossil fuels. This Bill will not improve the living conditions of Canadians, but hurry the immanent climate collapse while making the wealthy wealthier. Because of this, this Bill allows the future generations to to shoulder the inevitable burden of a devastated ecosystem and violated Indigenous communities by removing protections for Indigenous peoples and the environment. This Bill is therefore anti-democratic, as it does not represent the wishes or needs of Canadians.
