I am writing to plea on behalf of the natural world, against the proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007, and the proposal for the Species Conservation Act, 2025.
I fully recognize the need for economic development and increased housing in this province. However, we have already lost so many species that we need to protect those that remain *and* their habitat, where they nest, live, and migrate. We need to maintain and even expand these protections, not reduce or eliminate them. The future of birds like the Piping Plover and Red-headed Woodpecker are at stake.
One of my favourite places to be is out in nature, whether by water, in a forest, or observing wildlife at a wetland or grassland. Such places and activities are a wonderful counterpoint to the busy, stressful lives people live. We neglect them at our peril.
Bottom line, all of us -- humans, flora, and fauna -- are interconnected. What affects one, affects us all. Please reconsider and reject these changes that will seriously threaten important habitats and species already at risk.
Thank you -NM, Kitchener
