While this act claims to benefit Ontario by boosting production of new housing, its effects on wildlife cannot be ignored. Not only would the new Species Conservation Act make it possible to easily destroy territory crucial to species’ survival and welfare, it also enables the government to remove at-risk species from the protected species list. This puts all Ontario species in a dangerous position without any mandatory means of surveillance, enabling the Ontario government to disregard the health of our beloved wildlife while making developmental decisions. I am strongly opposed to the Species Conservation Act, and urge the government to retain the Endangered Species Act of 2007 which will continue to advocate for Ontario wildlife.
