This proposed legislation is an assault on the legal and democratic rights of Ontarians, especiallyof the Indigenous peoples. This proposal will result in decades of costly litigation, environmental degradation and health and social harms to the people directly affected.

I support working with Indigenous peoples of Ontario to develop our mining resources, but it must be done with their consent, and with the environmental protection needed to avoid creating lasting environmental harms.

The ongoing harm suffered by the people of Grassy Narrows First Nation and the significant costs to assist that community should stand as a cautionary tale as to why creating zones with minimal protections is a bad idea that should not be advanced, and not supported.
