Environmental and species protections must not be abandoned in favour of "the economy," and Indigenous rights must be recognized and honoured. A sellout to mining and other corporate interests will ultimately do immeasurably more harm than good, and take decades to unwind. Growth and prosperity is possible without deserting the responsibilities we have to the world and each other; move ahead thoughtfully, cautiously, and responsibly to ensure the world we live in, and the people we share it with, are not permanently damaged by reckless greed.
