Your government's discretionary use of power has repeatedly proven unsound in hindsight. Due process can be changed with appropriate consult but just overriding checks & balances is wrong. You may have the most seats in parliament but you do not have a mandate with only ~20% population support. Bottom line is you have to earn the public trust not just destroy the democratic system, bureaucratic as it is.
