The pursuit of economic gain must never come at the expense of endangered species, Indigenous communities, or their cultural heritage. These groups have already been deeply impacted by previous federal and provincial legislation, which has contributed to the erosion of their identities and traditions. Bill 5 represents a continuation of this pattern of harm and will further entrench the marginalization these communities have long worked to overcome.
This legislation threatens to destroy irreplaceable archaeological sites, severing our connection to the past and undermining our collective identity. It also poses a grave risk to critical habitats of species already struggling to survive due to human activity.
Passing Bill 5 would mark a significant setback for Canada. It would undermine decades of progress toward reconciliation, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation. As a nation, we cannot afford to ignore the long-term consequences of prioritizing short-term economic interests over justice, history, and ecological responsibility.
