I am very concerned about and highly motivated to oppose this Bill. A multitude of UN scientists have made it very clear not only that our biodiversity is at risk from loss of habitat but also that our wellbeing depends on protecting the environment.
The Endangered Species Act represents meaningful provincial protections for endangered, threatened and special concern species in Ontario. It is ridiculous to consider that destroying habitat and endangered plants and animals might help ‘protect Ontario’ or ‘unleash’ the economy. It appears that, like the Greenbelt scandal, this is a way of rewarding developers at the expense of the broader public.
I am extremely concerned about the impact of this Bill means that components from Chinese companies can be arbitrarily banned, compromising the viability of cheaper solar energy in Ontario.
