I am concerned that this proposal to amend the Environmental Assessment Act to remove the current requirement that the Eagle’s Nest Mine undergo a comprehensive environmental assessment.

This proposal threatens the fragile ecosystems in the Ring of Fire. It also violates promises made to First Nations in the region. Further, it threatens vital peatlands that sequester carbon and help fight climate change.

I call upon the government to withdraw the Changes to the Eagle’s Nest Mine Project in recognition of of their responsibility to uphold the rights of Indigenous Peoples and protect these lands and waters for all future generations.
