If something is worth doing, it's worth doing right.
The absurd Tariff threats from our US neighbour are not an excuse to trample on laws, regulations and democratic procedures designed to protect the common good. Bill 5 seems designed to enrich a few companies at the Premier's discretion while ruining the long-term health of our natural systems that are the basis for our society and our lives.
I agree with Toronto Star columnist Martin Regg Cohn when he writes that in these designated "Special Economic Zones", democratic norms will be suspended until further notice. And it's frightening to think that the idea for these lawless zones comes from Red China, as Cohn relates.
It is profoundlly anti-democratic for a Premier to say that he can break the rules. No one is above the law, and defending us from a law-breaker chief executive in the USA does not justify allowing for a law-breaking leader in Canada.
