I am very concerned by the proposal to walk back important environmental commitments in the EPR program. We are already in a state of crisis - too much plastic, not enough recycling. The proposed changes will take us backwards. Companies need to be held accountable, and to accept their important role in environmental sustainability, which the current targets enable. The targets need to be maintained (as a minimum). Further, allowing incineration to count as recycling is absolutely ridiculous and needs to be removed from the changes. I am so very discouraged that the government would even be considering these changes as they would seriously weaken our province’s recycling system. We need to continue to strive toward waste reduction and recyclability. Please do better.
