I'm very disappointed to hear that the sale of the beach areas of Allenwood, New Wasaga, Beach Area 1 and Beach Area 2 by the Province to the Town of Wasaga Beach is even being considered.
These are valuable natural assets belonging to the entire Province of Ontario via the Provincial Park and ought not to be sold to the local municipality.
The Mayor is quoted as saying “there are no immediate plans” for any development. Give that time.
Surely the absence of the world's longest freshwater beach in Wasaga's real estate portfolio has not been the reason for the lack of tourism in the Town. Rather, it is the lack of amenities and quite frankly things to do off the beach that is the problem. It isn't the lack of beachfront property.
Sufficient development has already taken place adjacent to New Wasasga Beach and I'm certain Allenwood is next.
These natural resources are just that -- and belong under the management of the descendant of the Ministry of Natural Resources. They belong to the people of Ontario and must be given the full protection they currently enjoy.
