I totally agree with the changes that the Town of Wasaga Beach has suggested to the provincial ministries. In particular, buying Crown land to turn it into a tax-generating purpose is a win for both the town & the province. To further this, I propose to expand the selling of individual parcels of crown land through Wasaga Beach, especially along Shore Lane to private owners. These empty lots were a result of the Ontario government trying to expropriate the land from cottage owners back in the 1970’s. My family lived through this emotionally fearful time caused by bad government policy. To rectify this 5 decade old problem, I propose the tax paying cottage owners directly adjacent to theses lots have first right of refusal to buy the land, at a under market price, just like the Town of Wasaga is doing, from the Crown in Beach Area 1& 2. These newly owners lots would then become property tax revenue for various levels of government. As well, it could LOWER the tax base for all residents of Wasaga Beach which presently is very high.
