Maintaining collection for small businesses

I do not believe removing curbside collection for smaller IC&I locations is beneficial to those businesses and municipalities. Having worked for rural and urban municipalities, there is benefit to the collection of blue box material at curbside for small to medium sized businesses in each community. This activity occurred as a means to assist and improve recycling throughout the community. What is recycled at home should be recycled at school and work. Removing this activity is not in the spirit of what was established and first discussed when this regulation was being proposed. It will lead to pushes costs onto municipalities and the residents of the community.

Taking away collection points for IC&I does not make sense as people take recyclable material from work to home and vice versa. There should not be a hinderance to recycling, if this option is removed there will be more sent to landfills. There needs to be a balance between all of the areas where people handle recyclable material. Teaching Ontarians how to recycle but they can't at school, church or out shopping is counterintuitive.

The current regulation does not provide a measurable and definitive means for municipalities to calculate and charge producers for recyclable material entering Municipal Landfills. Therefore, continuing the burden on tax-payers to offset the costs for Producers (PROS). As well as, filling up landfill sites quicker than planned. PROS should be held accountable for all the material that is being produced and provide an efficient way to collect recyclable material without impacting small communities which include IC&I sources.

There are many local Council and County Councils that have sent motions throughout the province and should be incorporated as comments into this amendment.
