Allowing Rick climbing in Devil's Glen is a terrible idea. I know that climbing groups must be pushing for this, but they are a very small group compared to the rest of Ontarians, for whom provincial parks are protected.
Rock climbing is detrimental to vegetation, and there are rare and threatened species growing on the Niagara escarpment. I don't know if there are thousand year old cedars at Devils Glen the way there are at Lion's Head, but they should be protected from people who would (inadvertently, of course) kill them for a few hours of testing themselves.
This is another example of how this government is bowing to small groups of noisy people and ignoring the silent majority of Ontarians. It is also an example of the disdain and indifference they show for the environment that is trying to sustain us. Please do not proceed with this proposed change in policy.
