It is outrageous that the Ontario government thinks it is suitable to take away Provincial Park lands and turn it into resorts.
These lands are vital in providing access to nature and preserving habitats for wildlife. Land is increasingly being developed for unnecessary reasons that benefit the few but at the cost of many and while harming essential ecosystems and homes for animals. This decision feels extraordinarily short sighted as preserving the land feels more essential and important than ever as our climate is being irrevocably changed.
Additionally, as cost of living becomes less affordable for most, being able to access nature and overnight experiences makes it even more vital that we have as much Provincial Park space as possible. It should not be used for in a way that only serves the wealthy.
My last thought on this is that as temperatures continue to increase due to climate change, public access to beaches is imperative in order to stay cool while minimizing carbon footprints.
