Thank you for the opportunity to provide comment on ERO posting # 025-0656. I am writing on behalf of the Ontario Waterpower Association to express our support for the government’s proposal to facilitate the Enhancement of Transmission Capacity Between Northern and Southern Ontario - The Barrie to Sudbury Transmission Lines transmission line project by declaring the lines a priority project and designating Hydro One as the transmitter for the lines.

The proposed transmission line is expected to enhance the reliability and capacity of the local electricity supply, and will, coupled with the expansion of transmission in northern Ontario, help facilitate the realization of the province’s significant untapped hydroelectric potential.

I am pleased to see that Hydro One has committed to meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities and will be advancing this critical project in collaboration with local First Nations. This approach aligns with our industry’s dedication to fostering inclusive and respectful relationships with Indigenous peoples, ensuring that they share in the economic and social benefits of local electricity development projects.
