Hello,
I am sharing my support for the proposed amendment to the Devil's Glen Provincial Park Management Plan, and adding rock climbing as a permitted activity in the park.
As an avid camper, hiker and climber, Ontario Parks have played a significant role in my childhood, my adult life, and now as a parent, in my daughter's life. Having begun rock climbing in the last three years, I have joined and witnessed a community of people who are committed to supporting and appreciating the beautiful and unique nature of Ontario. As someone who feels strongly about being a proper steward of the land, I have found climbers to be respectful of the natural environment, practicing leave no trace, respecting other park users and trees, and always trying to minimize their impact on the space.
All along the Bruce Trail, there are limited but cherished climbing-permitted crags that offer world-class climbing, and Devil's Glen would be a great addition to the options for climbing. It offers an opportunity for Ontarians to enjoy outdoor physical activity and take in the natural beauty in our own backyard.
As an Olympic sport, climbing is growing in popularity. This is seen both at climbing gyms and at the crags across Ontario. Formal recognition of the activity in Devil's Glen will ensure that proper safety measures and support are provided by the few climbers who maintain routes, thereby keeping climbs and climbers safe and ensuring they have experienced mentors.
Thank you again for your consideration.
