As a lifelong Ontario resident, user of Ontario park since the age of 1 years old, and outdoor rock climber for over a decade, I strongly support the proposed changes to the park's management plan for Devil's Glen which would allow for popular and safe forms of rock climbing to take place.
A balanced approach to outdoor recreation, which includes multiple forms of outdoor activity, best serves our varied communities. As someone who has hiked, biked, canoed, and climbed in many Ontario parks, I believe all safe outdoor access and activity needs are valid.
For safety and lot term conservation reasons, adding a parking lot to Devil's glen would improve access for a variety of outdoor activities, including rock climbing.
As a note to terminology, the amendments include the use of the term "no free climbing" which refers to a style defining how a climbers safety equipment can be used. Instead it should say "no free solo climbing" which refers to the lack of use of safety gear which I do not support.
