A petition was created and signed by hundreds of Goulais residents, then forwarded to Bill Rosenberg in hopes that he will address the Legislative Assembly. We, the people, the tax payers, ARE ENTIRELY AGAINST THIS. For the simple fact that the engineering firm stated that the treated effluent was not suffice to recycle into snow for the resort because people wouldn't want to ski in their own feces- says it all! The proposed SBR system was chosen because it is cost effective; suggesting then that they are for profit over people and therefore the environment. Septic tanks continue to be a viable option in that the soil composition surrounding the river plays a crucial role in filtering the waste- slim to none. Notably 20,000 gallon tanks are available. Nature is the best filter. It was suggested that only 80-85% of the effluent is effectively treated. The remaining margin of 15-20% is not acceptable. Consider this analogy: if a person desperately wanted to purchase an expensive item and it came up for sale at 20% off, they would likely buy it because 20% is considerable savings! Studies coming from (not only) the Toronto Metropolitan University are confirming that micro/nano plastic particles, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products (but to name a few) can not be eradicated, therefore threatening the health of the river and every ecosystem around it- including US and our health. Dr. Hamza from TMU suggested that her and her colleagues quit tracking contaminants when they reached
11, 000...so to suggest that numerous species are at risk is an understatement! This treatment plant can and should not be allowed to proceed!
