I support the elimination or significant reduction of minimum lot size regulations. As mentioned in the policy review, Tokyo, Japan, allows all types of build forms of housing. This encourages the market to provide a variety of homes to the public. Ontario has a severe affordability crisis, and the reduction of regulations on minimum lot sizes will help developers and owners build housing in smaller lots. This will help increase density, and unleash creative solutions to build housing with a smaller footprint. This policy is beneficial especially at a provincial level, as it standardizes the policies across a broad variety municipal jurisdictions in the Province. Both big and small cities would benefit from this policy change. This change can be helped with other policy changes such as a regulation of floor space index, or buildable area per lot. I linked the article below on the lessons Tokyo offers.
