Specifically in regard to the proposed changes in hunting access to Boyne Valley Provincial Park. I am a member of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation whose traditional territory this Park sits within. I live in the area and visit the park for hiking at least every other week, if not more. It has become a place that is important to me and my well being.

I am no stranger to hunting for sustenance and necessity; it was a part of our upbringing. I like to think we harvested sustainably, in a manner that maintained the status quo. It is for that reason I would be opposed to extending the hunting permissions throughout this park that do not currently exist. There is a thriving deer population in the area, not to mention sightings I have had within that park of fishers, mink, turkey, foxes and coyotes. The ecosystem there seems to be in balance. I worry that introduction of hunting will disrupt what exists, and to what end, we can not foresee.

I would also remind you that the current park boundary nearly or directly shares a property line with Primrose Elementary School. The introduction of the potential for high powered rifles being used directly adjacent to the school property changes the risk profile, perhaps minimally, but still introduces it where there was none before.

I understand that hunting is currently allowed on some of the lands to be added to the park. I note that there will indeed remain a large amount of huntable lands in the general area around the expanded park, even if these lands that will be added to the Park are no longer accessible. However, removing all of the lands from the threat of hunting will significantly reduce areas of respite that are currently used by the wildlife in the area.

I urge you to reconsider your position of allowing hunting in Boyne Valley Provincial Park.
