I have been using the trails…

I have been using the trails in the Kolapore Uplands for many years and particularly in the last four years living in the vicinity. It is very special to my wife and me and the friends and family we join there. The KWTA has done a magnificent job of providing access through the current trail system and has managed and maintained the trails very well using volunteers and members. In particular, the fact that in winter the trails are maintained for cross-country skiing only has provided a very unique and enjoyable winter experience, one that I use frequently. Removal of this skiing only provision would ruin that unique experience.

I'm supportive of the plan to establish the Kolapore Uplands Conservation Reserve ONLY IF:
1. the level of recreation and conservation are balanced
2. access and use of the trail system continue, with a priority on non-motorized use
3. provisions for managing, maintaining and improving the trail system are established in such a way as to continue the current character of the reserve as an accessible but peaceful and natural backcountry environment
4. the exisiting trail infrastructrue, signage and blazing be maintained as the basis of ongoing trail management and improvement
5. the practice of restricting access to the trails in winter for cross-country skiing only be maintained
6. the level and coverage of trails for motorized or other vehcle use in the Reserve is not increased significantly

Lastly, I would encourage consideration of using or partnering with the existing Kolapre Wilderness Trails Associaztion (KWTA) in the stewardhip of the Kolapore Uplands.
