I'm extremely concerned about a mega-regional authority responsible for multiple Great Lakes watersheds.
I acknowledge the attempt at financial rationalization, if that's the case, but the risk of loss of unique perspectives is troubling in the extreme.
In no way can Lake Simcoe be reconciled with issues affecting the Great Lakes except in the narrowest of terms i.e. pollution.
In particular and only in this one regard, among many others, that will be raised is this:
Proposed Georgina Island Fixed Link (bridge and causeway).
The roadway will have to be salted causing runoff into the lake.
The damage to the indigenous fishery as a result will have costs as loss of income from the destruction will need compensation, not to mention the loss of traditional food sources rather than store bought,
Finally, 2 ice breaking ferries 24 / 7 / 365 were part of the proposal discussions.
The fixed link potential cost is Half a Billion for just over 200 island residents.
The ferries ? About $50 Million proposed by the current ferry operator.
Thank you for the portal to make a comment on an issue of direct concern to me
I use Lake Simcoe !
