Any proposed changes to the organization of Ontario's Conservation Authorities must be robustly supported by provincial funding and effectively managed. The Provincial Government's disastrous handling of the Region of Peel dissolution has done irreparable damage (loss of senior staff and inability to plan for future operations) to the Region's ability to deliver services to their constituents, and it is critical that the province effectively applies lessons learned from the attempted dissolution to this amalgamation.
Please listen carefully to the municipalities and their opinions/demands that are centred on these plans. Partnerships between the towns/cities and conservation authorities are essential for municipal planning. I truly hope that these long-standing relationships will not suffer as a consequence of dilution. This plan has the potential to be effective for cities and conservation authorities (especially currently existing small CA's), but the mishandling of this change has real potential to be devastating for all parties.
