The LRCA is an incredibly well managed and regionally beloved organization whose work provides locals and visitors to the area a wonderful offering of beautifully maintained sites to experience. Well organized, active, and always moving their portfolios ahead in a timely and strategic manner; this level performance can not be duplicated by a centralized authority from southern Ontario. As typically happens, there would be great fears in the north of priorities and funding being focused by a southern Ontario centralized body on the south. A great loss to the north and another indication of a lack of respect or focus on the area by provincial governments.
An especially deep loss, would be the focus the LRCA has placed on regional youth engagement and programming.
Considering this government’s focus on mineral sector development in the north, one would hope that these pressing interests are at least somewhat balanced by continued investment in conservation efforts, such as those done by the LRCA. Or, is the north only worth investing in when the south can benefit from extracting its resources? This is my first time ever commenting on a government decision, but I can't just sit by and watch this go ahead without expressing my deep concern for this decision and what it says about when the north is worthy of attention and investment… and when it isn’t for this government.
