I think that the HCA's comments regarding local control of watersheds is vital to each current authority. Having said that I see the opportunity to reduce executive/sr. management costs. There is no information as to what the new organization would look like or how they would offer memberships. I currently live in Oakville, but have a separate memebership with both Halton and Hamilton conservation authorities. It would be nice to pay for a single membership, but if the cost were less would it hurt the income of the authorities. Alternately if you increase the price, it may disuade people from joining as the cost maybe too high. I have not read anything on the potential impact on the operation or the future costs of memberships for the new larger conservation authorities. Therefore, I confess to being quite concerned that these types of issues are not addressed before proceeding with this change. More information is required. I am also concerned that this change could result in more bureaucracy, not less and result in increased costs and poorer service. Also what would happen to the front line staff in each authority that do the actual work to maintain the conservation areas.
