The major issue suggested as reason for moving to the new structure is to improve the permitting process. Why can't the exiting 36 authorities work together to standardize and accelerate the permitting process? This would be a far more effective strategy than to undertake a massive restructuring and reorganization. It seems to me this could be achieved in a few months and be activated long before the new structure even gets off the ground.
The proposed boundaries result in huge, unmanageable areas which will not have any connection or relationship to the municipalities/regions they are supposed to serve. Why not just have 1 authority serving the entire province with local offices or networks to provide service?
Conservation Authorities play an important role in local education/awareness about conservation issues and initiatives. I doubt that 7 large authorities can manage this effectively.
