Hello,

I am writing to express my extreme opposition to the proposed merging of Ontario Conservation Authorities. This would negate me voting in future for this government. Some of my reasons include:
Protection of our environment and green space is of paramount importance for our future well-being and survival as a species Loss of green space escalateds global warming, a threat to our very existence and the cause of skyrocketing naturla disasters with the ensuing human and financial costs. Part of that protection is the existence of localized conservation authorities to protect the watershed. The larger a governance structure becomes, the more removed staff become from the local problem, and the more layers of bureacracy impede any oversight. With reduction in staff naturally occuring in this move, less oversight will take place to protect our green space from pollution, flooding and overdevelopment.

There is also a huge mental health and physical well-being aspect, as conservation authorities increase quality of life for its citizens. I impore you NOT to move ahead with this decision, as I truly believe it would be disastrous. I have experienced a situation where a dam sprung a leak, and people downriver had to be evacuated. It is the local conservation authority that caught this and oversaw the protection of people from imminent danger. I believe it could result in increased deaths and injury. Please don't move ahead with this!
