I absolutely oppose Bill 68 and the proposed amalgamation of the province's local conservation authorities into just seven regional authorities, with heavily centralized governance in Toronto. It's offensive to me that you would reduce local input and control over CAs (through municipal representation on CA boards), while -- presumably -- continuing the funding approach that sees those same municipalities paying the lion's share of CA budgets.
The Minister responsible has commented that this move is "necessary" to speed home and economic development. Rubbish. Since the current provincial government first came to power in 2018, you've repeatedly slashed environmental safeguards with NO resulting improvement in the rate of home construction, and most certainly no improvement in the provision of desperately needed affordable housing. I'd refer you to the Five Ways Home plan for affordable housing developed by the Alliance for a Liveable Ontario (https://www.liveableontario.ca/five-ways-home) if you want some common sense solutions to housing. And you'll note, none of those solutions involve eviscerating local Conservation Authorities.
