I am fully against the proposed amalgamation and disgusted that this government continues to disrespect the land and the people who care for it. This amalgamation would cause:

Loss of Local Control and Expertise: A larger, regional bureaucracy will not understand the unique, local watershed conditions, municipal needs, or specific community relationships built over decades. Decisions about permits, floodplain management, and planning are best made locally.

Increased Flood Risks and Environmental Damage: Amalgamations will weaken the ability of authorities to protect people and property from natural hazards by sidelining science-based, local expertise. A push for faster development approvals may override environmental protections and increase the chance of flooding and water contamination.

Lack of Evidence and Consultation: The province has not provided evidence of why the current system is inefficient or why a merger is needed. Additionally, conservation authorities and local municipalities reported learning of the plan with little to no prior consultation.

Financial and Operational Concerns: The process of merging systems is expected to be expensive, with substantial transition costs and no clear provincial funding plan, potentially increasing the burden on local taxpayers. There are no guarantees that locally generated revenue (e.g., from park fees) would be reinvested locally under a regional model.

Centralization of Power: The move is designed to centralize power into provincial hands and remove influence from communities and local municipal leaders. This is a made-up problem for a solution that no one's asked for, except for the province.

Do not do this.
