This sounds an awful lot like the rollout of the failed Regional Government of the 1970 / 80's. All of the items identified as roadblocks or impediments are probably there for good reason; to ensure that there are sound, well thought out policies and regulations in place that recognize the local specializations that affect most Conservation Authorities. Each watershed has it's own unique aspects, needs and qualities that are best represented locally.
The Ford government continues to look for ways to circumvent the existing restrictions and regulations in order to unwisely open up development in environmentally fragile areas. As unwise as Regional Government was, this is even more unwise and dangerous to the environmental future of our Province.
This government continues to take the approach that those that put these laws / rules / restrictions / guidelines in place were wrong. If anything, this proposal highlights the need for these as being far more pressing than ever for the people of Ontario.
