Searchmont creates artificial snow. Unbeknownst to most people, it is (also) hazardous to human health- from those skiing in it, to those employees handling it, and equally devastating to the river (biodiversity). It is notable that the owners sought approval to PULL WATER from the river to create fake snow, yet chose to avoid seeking approval to MAKE IT. More over, the compliance approval they received is outdated, therefore snow making operations should be put to an abrupt halt.
SNOW MAKING ALSO GENERATES NOISE POLLUTION FOR WHICH NUMEROUS NEARBY RESIDENTS ARE SUFFERING FROM AS THE OPERATIONS CONTINUE AROUND THE CLOCK
Numerous metals, biological components and residual processing chemicals are part of the make up of artificial snow, all of which create chaos in abundance.
*SNOMAX*
Major inorganic and nitrogenous components of ice nucleating additives. Calculated from an analysis of a diluted solution.
Component Amount per 1 g powder
Total suspended solids 1,900 mg
Total dissolved salts 1,244 mg
Sulfate (SO₄²⁻) 693 mg
Total phosphorus (P) 186 mg
Phosphate (as P) 99 mg
Sodium (Na) 366 mg
Potassium (K) 95.8 mg
Magnesium (Mg) 49.6 mg
Calcium (Ca) 2.73 mg
Chloride (Cl⁻) 31 mg
Total nitrogen 37.9 mg
Ammonia-N 30.3 mg
Biological components
Component Amount per 1 g powder Notes
Total protein (irradiated bacterial biomass) ~150–300 mg Based on nitrogen content and proteomics
Endotoxin (LPS) ~10⁵–10⁷ EU Typical of Gram-negative biomass
DNA fragments 241 ng Directly measured
Metals (powder-state values)
Metals reported with numeric values:
Metal Amount per 1 g powder
Iron (Fe) 3.5 mg
Zinc (Zn) 0.205 mg
Manganese (Mn) 0.033 mg
Nickel (Ni) 0.005 mg
Copper (Cu) 0.003 mg
Mercury (Hg) 0.003 mg
Metals reported as “< value” at the analytical concentration (numeric powder bounds):
Metal Amount per 1 g powder
Arsenic (As) <0.01 mg
Cadmium (Cd) <0.01 mg
Lead (Pb) <0.01 mg
Chromium (Cr) <0.01 mg
Aluminium (Al) <0.05 mg
Selenium (Se) <0.02 mg
Silver (Ag) <0.01 mg
These values reflect measured presence below the laboratory’s reporting precision, not absence.
Residual processing chemicals
Component Estimated amount per 1 g powder
Protein-bound / releasable formaldehyde ~0.1–1 mg
Formaldehyde used during bacterial processing is commonly protein-bound and may be released when the powder rehydrates in the airways.
Testing and scans should be part of Searchmont's employers health program if a person is required to work with this chemical. Use of PPE and only responsible staff who understand the danger.
