This proposal should include changes to the application process for new licenses in Ontario Archaeology.

Currently the requirement for an applied research license is a degree in archaeology or area of archaeology, with proof of degree saying archaeology.

It should be expanded to include other areas of study that are adjacent to archaeology, specifically anthropology. Especially when the applicants degree still includes courses in archaeology and other overlapping areas of study.

The current guideline limits the amount of applicants, who are otherwise qualified through a combination of work experience in Ontario archaeology and schooling, because their degree does not say archaeology on it.

This change would allow many more qualified and capable applicants to obtain their applied research license, in turn, creating more field supervisor roles in a field currently severely understaffed in field directors throughout Ontario. Which would then allow more projects to be taken on, go forward and be completed which is a major issue currently, as delays and understaffing continue to hold up infrastructure, construction, and other projects that are critical to the development goals of Ontario.
